President Obama made an insensitive remark on the Leno Show last night about the Special Olympics. Many who live or work with "Special Needs" kids were shocked and hurt by what he said was a "slip of the tongue" by their President.
March 21st was World Down Syndrome Day 2009. Let's use this time to educate ourselves about how loving and kind children with "Special Needs" are. They have a way of wrapping themselves around our hearts. You applaud each achievement they make, knowing how they had to struggle to accomplish things like sitting, walking, and talking that come so easily to "normal" children. Their smiles and hugs light up our hearts and lives. I feel sorry for those who have never known their unconditional love.
